My name is Jerome. I'm one of the best Quran teachers in the world. This blog post will teach you Quran. Quran is a book like no other, and it has many important lessons for life, some of which are unknown to most people today. But before we get to that, let's talk about where the Quran came from. Most people think that the Quran is a book written by a man – Muhammad – about 1400 years ago. They don't know that this isn't quite true, and what it means to be a revelation from God. There are many kinds of revelation. Some revelations come from God but are not in human words. In Judaism and Christianity, for example, the prophets would have dreams or visions which they interpreted as messages from God. Then they would tell people what was revealed to them using their own words, because their language (Hebrew and Arabic) wasn't like the language of their listeners (their listeners didn't speak Hebrew and Arabic well). In this kind of revelation, the prophet's message came from God, but the words came from the prophet. The words that made up a prophet's message were a translation of a divine message to the prophet into language that their listeners could understand. For example, if I received a vision from God in my own language, I would have no way to communicate it to you. My words come from me and your words come from you – they aren't interchangeable. We all have different vocabularies and grammars and backgrounds, so we wouldn't understand each other even if we spoke in English or Arabic or French or Swahili or any other human language. But what if we were both Arabs and we were talking to each other in Arabic? Then we could understand each other, and we could understand God's message to us directly. An Arabic speaker would be able to understand the message of a prophet without the prophet having to use his own words. For example, for me as an English speaker it would be difficult (or impossible) to learn enough Arabic to read the Koran in its original language; but as an Arab-speaker you would be able to do it fairly easily, because you already know the language that was used. This idea – of a divine message being communicated through a prophet – is similar to a dream or vision in a way. You see things in your dream or vision that you can't see with your eyes; likewise, the prophet sees things that no one else can see. So it's like getting information from God through your dreams (that was hidden before) instead of learning it by yourself. So now that we know about revelation, let's talk about the Quran.
